OK: yes, this book does appeal to the ever present horsewoman in me. A woman wanders around "gentling" horses, rather than "breaking" them (Horse Whisperer fans unite!). Hmmmm...maybe a better way to handle human relationships as well? But it's a beautiful, sad portrait of the West and simpler times in simpler places.

From the author of some of the best fiction about the truths of human nature and happiness comes this little gem. How many times have we suggested to someone that they "get a life?" What does that mean exactly? It will only take you a few minutes to read, but will explain what you need to know, while opening your eyes to opening your life.

A classic . . . I pull this book out a reread it at least once a year. Originally geared towards people in business or cubicle life, it a fantastic reference for bettering relationships with family, spouses and with people outside the workplace as well. With all the self-help books out there, this remains one of the best. Look how good Dale Carnegie did for himself!

Introduced to "Rumi-nations" by a friend, I always look forward getting Facebooked the Rumi inspiration of the day. Brooks' translations are beautiful, but not far out . . . a sensual, uplifting experience perfect to read by yourself or read to a friend.

This is no _Twilight_ -- Kostova's historic thriller is centered on the history and myth of vampire legend. It's beautifully researched and sensuously written, with great locales, terrific characters, and of course the element of mystery. The Historian is a detailed historical fiction, written by an author with a particular passion for her tale.

This book caused a big stir when it was released. How dare women settle for someone?? But Gottlieb is suggesting not that we settle for Mr. Wrong, but that we broaden our expectations of the Perfect Date in order to better our chances of connecting with Mr. Right. Do the math: 85% of women want a man over 6 feet tall, but only 15% of men meet that height standard. Anyone who's dating can benefit from the insights offered here. (Dare to anyone who will accept: Tackle this same topic by men, for men, and see what happens.)

Loved it! Noah Boyd drew from his own experiences as an FBI Agent to create a fast-paced battle of the minds. Steve Vail is a rogue agent brought back in from civilian life to help them catch an insider set on destroying the FBI. Not a complicated read, but it's always satisfying when the good guys win.
